The annual INSPIRE conference was in Aalaborg in Denmark the 16. – 20. of June. On behalf of Iceland two employees from NLSI went to the conference, EydÃs L. Finnbogadóttir and Saulius Prizginas along with Ragnar Þórarðarson from the Ministry for the Environment and Natural Resources. In the conference guests were discussing the INSPIRE implementation from the European Union along with spatial data infrastructure. The INSPIRE implementation is about better access to environmental spatial data along with better access to spatial data infrastructure. Iceland has implemented the regulation and NLSI are in charge of the implementation and following the laws that were set regarding the implementation. NLSI has also set up a geoportal (gatt.lmi.is) and there you can find variety of spatial data.
The conference splits up into two parts where the first two days were workshops. Special workshop was set up for the eENVplus project which Iceland is a part of and that project won the „CEN/TC 287 Award for Excellence and Innovation in INSPIRE“ and we are really happy regarding that. The project shows very useful examples of how to use the INSPIRE and works around the troubles that have been in the way.
The last three days were regular conference days and during that time the Icelandic employees soaked in information from the foreign colleagues because they are three years ahead of us in the INSPIRE implementation.
All the workshops and lectures are accessible on the conference website.
