The National Land Survey of Iceland offers several Map Services of use on the web.

The Image window shows SPOT 5 satellite images that have been spliced together. These are around 70 images taken between 2002 - 2007. The images are originally with 2,5 metres ground resolution but here they're shown with 10 metres ground resolution. The SPOT 5 satellite images were bought by many institutes, public companies and municipalities to be used by the icelandic government.

The Atlas maps were originally made by the Danish surveyors in the first four decades of the 20th century. The last updates were made in 1989 and are considered to be among the most beautiful maps of Iceland.

In the Atlas map window these maps have been spliced together and can be looked at on a scale up to 1:38 500. One can also look for place names and addresses.

The IS 50V Map window contains data which is contains only data from the IS 50V database of the institute. The information is updated live. The database layers get added when zooming in. One can not zoom further in than 1:10 000. You can search for place names and addresses.

On Loftmyndir (aerial photographs) one can see a Landsat satellite image of Iceland and SPOT-5 satellite images of a great part of the country with 10 metres ground resolution. One can also find a small part of the 140,000 aerial photographs that are available at NLSI. The aerial photos were taken from 1937 to 2000 and are a very good source for the changes the country has gone through in the last decades. Users can choose between downloading the photos to their computers in good resolution (about 2 mb) or contact the institute to buy copies of the photos in 1200 dpi resolution on CD.

The Cocodati programs offers users to project/calculate between the coordinate systems applicable in Iceland. It also helps one to calculate distance between coordinates and directions, magnetic declination, provides information on GPS ground control points and conversion between coordinate systems.

Drawings of Icelandic farms made by the Danish surveyors

In the first years of last century Danish surveyors drew many urban areas and Icelandic farms. Part of these drawings is available here and can be studied by clicking on the squares on the map.
